about the atelier's advanced course
Our Advanced course is a comprehensive covering on drawing and creating your own webcomics and manga, from an overview of drawing in the various manga archetypes, constructing your own work, using various materials in the course of its creation to publishing on the web or submit your works to professional publishing houses.
During the course of the program, you will receive instruction and assistance from the Megami instructors, as well as being issued "homework" that will be required for completion. By the end of the course, you will have the basics needed to continue on a path as a manga-ka, webcomic artist or even someone who may wish to pursue a career in related fields.

rules of the course
- The Advanced course is for those already with a strong artistic background and a desire to move forward in creating their own works. Thus, prior completion of the Atelier Basic course (or the standalone course taught in the Summer or Autumn 2008 sessions) is required. Alternately, enrollment in a high school Art II or higher course may substitute. This course is not recommended for those only learning to draw in a manga style.
- Participation in all sections of the course is mandatory. Sessions may not be missed unless arranged previously with the instructors or valid reason provided. Should a session be missed, please contact the instructors and a makeup session or equivalent will be arranged. Missing two sessions will result in being dropped from the course.
- Participation in assignments is mandatory. Assignments may not be turned in more than one week late. Failure to turn them in after one week will result in probation; failure to turn them in after two weeks will result in being dropped from the course.
- Art supplies will be issued starting the second week of class. For those of you who have your own materials or prefer to use your own, you may use your own in lieu of issued materials. Once issued, you will be responsible for ensuring you have said supplies (or equivalents) on you from the second class on.
- The "Legal Issues and Contracts" portion of the course is meant to be informative and should not be seen as formal legal advice.
- Collaboration between the students is encouraged; however, assignments are due on an individual basis and cannot be made collaborative. Feel free to share ideas and design concepts, tips, etc. with fellow students, but in the end your assignments are your responsibility and yours alone.
In short: have fun, learn from the instructors and your fellow students, and enjoy yourself. Though the class is structured, it is only a way to get on the path, and not the rigorous gauntlet that is the Kubert School of Cartooning, the Art Institute of Washington, the California Institute of the Arts or any other major art course. Just do your best and you should excel.
